The text and translation load side by side and by clicking on the sections in the “Walbank’s Commentary” box, the relevant passage from the commentary will load in the commentary frame at the bottom of the screen. After selecting “Texts and Commentaries,” you can click on Polybius’ Histories. I find the website particularly useful for Polybius because Walbank’s entire commentary on Polybius is online at PACE. Clicking on the place produces a pop-up window which lists all of the passages in the texts that mention that particular place. The database has information regarding alternate spellings or names for each site plus videos and/or images. You can select “Places” to see a list of places mentioned in the texts. The site is particularly valuable because of the way that it associates commentaries, scholarship, images, etc. The site is kept alive by McMaster University: Don’t be discouraged if you find a broken link. Due to a change in the web host, old links to the PACE website no longer work. Using PACE is easy but finding it can be difficult. PACE is home to reliable texts, translations, commentaries, archaeological reports, images, and scholarship on topics relevant to these two authors. PACE (Project on Ancient Cultural Engagement) is an invaluable resource for anyone studying Josephus or Polybius.
